In 2009 we headed out to a car show that was new to us, the Spring Fling in Rosenberg Texas. It gave us an opportunity to see our newest grandchild while The Memories Mall sold a few signs. Oh, and we got to see some great street rods, hot rods and custom cars. The annual Spring Fling is held in a beautiful park just south of town.
Here some shots of the great variety of cars that day.
| Silver is an elegant color for a collector car, it really accents the sweeping lines of this Buick coupe. It has horsepower rumbling under the hood and a rumble seat in back. | |
|
This 1957 Ford custom has all the modern upgrades that must make driving it a thrill. Inside the clean white interior features a center console with floor shifter and sport steering wheel. Since it's included in the graphic for the show, I'm guessing it's an annual favorite. |

For
truck lovers, there was a fine Studebaker pickup looking like it just
rolled off the dealers lot. These must have been great work trucks since
you see so few survivors today.

|
| The owner
of this 1956 Ford has really nailed the look. The dark pink recalls all
the interesting colors that came and went in the '50's. Updated with a 5.0L
High Output Ford engine, this must be the perfect cruise night car. |
|
| A 1932 Ford pick up decked out in deep black paint, makes a great hot rod. The choice of a Dodge engine is a little unusual as well. | |
| Paint colors have really opened up the world of street rods. This 34 Ford sports a variety of brilliant hues creating a special look. | |
| No, you're
not seeing double. This iconic '34 Ford sedan was pulling a matching trailer.
The "coolest" part was the faux engine in the trailer was actually
an ice chest. Just tip the intake manifold up for a cold drink. For a laugh,
the owner sometimes puts green food coloring in the ice so when it drips
out the drain it looks like coolant. |
|
| The most
coveted 57 Ford must be the hard top convertible. It's probably the most
difficult classic to restore with all the electric motors and wiring needed
to operate the top. This beauty was also sporting the continental kit. |
|
| What can you say about a Cadillac hearse with flames and a giant blower poking out of the hood? This is the Final Cruise. | |
| A late 40's Ford might have been called a jalopy back in the day. Today it's just one sweet ride. | |
| The GM bubble tops of the early 1960's are some of the most beautiful examples of American automotive design and some of the most sought after models for collectors. This one sports a new Corvette engine and clean spacious custom interior. | |
| As auto production resumed after World War II, Detroit gradually began updating the designs left over from the late '30's. Even with the modern features of the restoration, this Lincoln convertible is a luxurious example of the transition. | |
|
Seeing all the great rides was almost as good as seeing the grandchildren. With the drive it was a long day but any day at a car show... you know. We'll probably be adding this show to the schedule in years to come. |
