Automotive Memories

When the big three auto makers were forming, they often bought smaller companies. Some brands changed hands often and some were independent until they finally closed. One auto maker that recently saw a nostalgic homage was Hudson, featured in the animated movie Cars.

Hudson

After funding the effort Joseph Hudson wasn't involved much in the operations of the company which was largely run by Coffin and ex-Oldsmobile men: Roy Chapin, George Dunham and Roscoe B. Jackson.

Hudson and Nash were merged into the American Motors in 1954 and the last production year for Hudson was 1957.

The Dymaxion car was a concept car designed by U.S. inventor and architect Buckminster Fuller in 1933. Dymaxion is a brand name that Fuller gave to several of his inventions, to emphasize that he considered them part of a more general project to improve humanity's living conditions.

The car had a fuel efficiency of 30 miles per gallon and could transport 11 passengers. Fuller claimed it could reach speeds of 120 miles per hour although the fastest documented speed was 90 miles per hour
