Springtime is when hot rodders like to take their cars out and blow the dust off them. Each year the Hill Country Street Rods club has a little Show 'n' Shine at Little River Drag Strip. This nostalgia drags event is the perfect place to show others what you've been working on over the winter and have a little fun with heads up racing. In 2007 we headed up there for a look at old fashion racing. The turnout always includes a little of everything from rat rods to classic muscle cars. What a great way to spend a day.

Richard at Street Rods Forever sold his '29 Ford in favor of a 1966 Thunderbird. Chris Canales has big plans for restoring the classic sedan, but he believes in driving his new ride. |
|
| Both guys are happy with the deal. Chris has the project car he's wanted for some time and the '66 Bird has great lines and is made for cruisin'. | |
| Robert's 1923 T-Bucket looks good going down the track or standing still. | |
| Our friend Casey had to make some serious repairs to his chopped top Rat Rod in the two days prior to the race. Fortunately, he's a heck of a mechanic and his Flathead powered coupe turned in some respectable runs. | |
| The Donut Gang had a lot of members come out for the day. Larry looks forward to bringing his blown 1933 Ford Coupe to the Nostalgia Drags every year. | |
| For mix and match races you can't beat this event. Where else are you going to see mid-60's Camaros up against classic street rods? There were some fine examples of the "Deuce" which gained a lot of it's popularity in the early days of drag racing. | |
| Some like their hot rods stylish and a little more roomy, like this beautiful Woody. Others prefer chopped top coupes with massive blowers. | |
| Little River's 1/8th mile track is perfect for matching up a '55 Chevy with a more modern Mustang or just powering your custom 1946 Chevy through the gears. | |
| This 1940 Studebaker is a good example of "old school" drag racing. It has that retro gasser stance with a solid front axle and no frills appearance. | |
| Two more automotive brands that have passed into history also showed up. The 1941 Willys is somewhat unique these days since it doesn't have a massive blower sticking through the hood. The 1952 Hudson sports some very fine flames. | |
| The car that is probably most associated with nostalgic automobiles is the 1957 Chevrolet. It was both a popular family car and baby boomer favorite when it was new. | |
| True street rodders are dedicated to the cars of the '30's and '40's. Here we have a 1938 Chevy coupe and a 1948 Ford Sedan, both beautifully restored. | |
| Heavy haulers like the 1929 pickup truck with custom grille and '55 Chevy Sedan Delivery were also on display at the Show 'n' Shine. | |
| Some classic car owners are content with sitting in the shade with friends to watch others race. I'll bet the '32 Deuce and 1938 Chevy coupe would both get down the track in a hurry if the owners wanted to. | |

Being in the nostalgic sign business means that I can take The Memories Mall to car shows and pretend I'm working while I enjoy the cars. My partner Craig has also decided that The Little Trailer Company is a good excuse for going to the show. Any way you look at it, any day at a car show is better than the best day in the office. |
