Automotive Memories

Lone Star Street Rod Association

Each year the largest street rod club in Texas sponsors a rod run hosted at Lady Bird Park in Fredericksburg, TX. The Lone Star Street Rod Association event draws about 500 of the sharpest rides in the south for a weekend in the park. It's the perfect setting for a hot rod event with the park road winding through the Texas Hill Country. You can always count on seeing classic street rods built with meticulous attention to detail and something unusual as well. For 2007, we made a quick trip around the grounds and although there were 100's of great rides we chose to photograph only a few truly interesting entries.

First up is a 1931 Plymouth sedan in classic white, owned by Charlie and Kathy Wilson of San Angelo with plenty of room inside for 4 people.

This sharp 1934 Ford convertible with rumble seat opts for a little more flash. The deep purple paint and complimentary graphics are carried into the upholstery theme.
Only slightly closer to a true blue, the two tone 1941 Lincoln convertible blends the original style with a modern paint scheme.

This 1930 Ford Panel Truck is clearly a show and go car with the emphasis on GO! While the more statley 1936 Ford Woody presents an elegant interpretation of a rare street rod restoration.

This time it's Genuine Ford for both show and go. The 1930 Ford Pickup with the tilt bed is powered by the small block 302 with a unique air intake configuration.

Tilt pickup beds and tilt front ends were prominently featured at the 2007 Lone Star Street Rod Association's annual rod run, including this unique 1947 Dodge truck.

Whether it tilts forward or tilts backwards, the engineering done by these owners is amazing and results in a special presentation of the vehicles.

Each year rodders from all over Texas and elsewhere come together in the beautiful Texas Hill Country for this show. The relaxed atmosphere of the park is perfect for strolling through row after row of American automotive history presented in all it's variety by dedicated and skilled enthusiasts.
