Cars have played an important part in 20th century American history and most of us have fond memories of a particular automobile. Whether it was your first car or what you were driving when when you met your spouse, the memory of that car stays with you.

My first car memory is the 1949 Mercury... with a back seat big enough to park a compact car in. Our family would drive it out to state parks or a fishing cabin on weekends. The big vacation in the summer time was a trip to Lake Erie to stay in a motel right on the water.

Fords, Chevrolets, Hudson's, Cadillacs, sports cars, convertibles, muscle cars.. we all have our favorites. There are also some visionary designers that created the memorable cars and race car drivers that made some of them famous.

Yes, we know gasoline used to be a lot cheaper and the man at the filling station used to pump gas, clean the windows and check the oil.
